Corruption among Chinese officials and Communist Party cadres has always been a problem.  In more recent years the situation had become acute.  Young people were joining the party to get advantage over non-party members in jobs, promotions and plum postings.  The fact that corruption was present in the top echelons made the fight against this scourge even more difficult.

China: Xi Jinping Preparing for a Major Political Strike

The Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece, the People’s Daily (August 10) clearly indicated that President Xi Jinping was preparing to strike at the powerful former President and party Chief Jiang Zemin. The newspaper carried a signed article titled, “Dialectally View the Phenomenon of ‘Tea Turns Cold When People are Away’,” a message that few in China could miss.

People’s Daily (Chinese language edition), the mouthpiece of  the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), carried a signed commentary on August 10, 2015, which alleged that “some retired leading cadres” , while they were in  office,   put  their “cronies” in  key positions, so that they can interfere in the work of their original organizations and wield influence in the  future.
