Maldives: Election Trends.

The Election Commission has finally announced the final list of eligible voters and this comes to a figure of 239, 593. Though a few are still left out, most of the names that were sought to be included have been accommodated.

The second round (if necessitated) of presidential elections will take place on October 28 and the new president will be taking over on November 11.

The GMR Deal:
 
On 17th of June and three years after the case was filed, the Anti Corruption Commission of Maldives concluded that no corruption was involved in the bid evaluation phase of the GMR deal of the international airport at Male.
 

Maldives: Nasheed Gets a Reprieve:

On an appeal filed by the team of lawyers defending Nasheed’s case, the Chief Judge of the High Court, Ahmed Shareef ordered the special court formed to try former President Nasheed’s case to halt the trial until it decides on the legitimacy of the panel of judges appointed to examine the case.

Nasheed Rearrested:

In less than two days of leaving the premises of the Indian High Commission, former president Nasheed was arrested by the authorities and taken to the hoonidhoo detention camp for producing him the next evening at the court of Hulhulumale.

As expected the situation in Male is getting messy and there appears to be no end to the high drama created when former President Nasheed sought refuge in the Indian High Commission to avoid an arrest warrant against him issued by the Hulhulu male Magistrate’s Court.
