Pakistan is widely disenchanted in 2020 with PM Imran Khan who rode into office in mid-2018 rousing high expectations in Pakistan’s middle class and youth that he was the ‘messiah’ who would rid Pakistan of all its political and economic ills and deliver to this Islamic Republic a “Naya Pakistan” translated—a :New Pakistan”.

Pakistan Army is notorious in exterminating duly elected Pakistani Prime Ministers who politically dare to assert civilian supremacy over Pakistan Army Generals. PM Bhutto was executed in 1979 after being deposed in a military coup by General Zia. PM Nawaz Sharif was deposed in a “Judicial Coup” by Army in 2017and left to rot in Pakistani jails denied expert medical treatment.

US President Trump would be “welcoming” Pakistan PM Imran Khan for “official working visit” on July 2019 at the White House. How does one read President Trump’s invitation to Pakistan PM as only about a year ago he was severely castigating Pakistan for undermining US interests in Afghanistan? Intriguing question that arises contextually is whether this is an US ‘invitation’, or a US ‘summons’ to the Pakistan PM.

Pakistan’s deep frustrations in March 2019 on Afghanistan stand manifested by Pakistan PM Imran Khan calling for installation of an Interim Government in Kabul. United States needs to evidently note that Taliban has no capability to over-run Afghanistan and Pakistan is seeking in 2019 a back-door entry for Taliban in Afghanistan’s governance.

Strategic denouement of the United States with Pakistan’s limited strategic utility to US interests was noticeable in end of last decade and has finally come to a head in end-2018 with emergence in Pakistan of PM Imran Khan carrying heavy baggage of Anti-Americanism and proclivity for enhanced relations with China-a country in confrontational mode with USA.

Pakistan in 2018 has ended up as a ‘Economically Failed State’ chiefly due to massive appropriations by Pakistan Army GHQ in Rawalpindi with no questions dare asked nor accountability called for by Pakistan’s elected/nominated Prime Ministers sitting in Islamabad. Pakistan’s gullible populace is sedated by Pakistan Army hierarchy that this is required to face Pakistan’s threats emanating from both flanks.
