It all began with Gambia on behalf of the OIC filed a Law suit at the United Nation’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Myanmar of breaching the 1948 Un Genocide Convention through a military campaign in Rakhine State. The ICJ with great alacrity took up the issue immediately and fixed December 12th for detailed hearing in the case!

Of late, the media in Myanmar is full of articles of possible Coup, failure of the Government, the international pressure on the Rohingya Issue and consequent bad relations between the Tatmadaw and the Civilian Government. The inference being made out is that if the Government does not act, the possibility of a coup cannot be ruled out!

If their idea is to throw Myanmar back into the arms of the Chinese, they are perhaps already succeeding. Even if the Government and the people want to get out of the stranglehold of China, the mission of these agencies is to ensure that it does not happen.

It is noticed that the UN and some Western Countries are putting undue pressure on the civilian leadership in Myanmar thus straining the delicate and cautious relationship between the civilian government led by Suu Kyi and the Tatmadaw (the Army). The problem relates to the events in Rakhine State and the exodus of nearly six to seven hundred thousand Rohingyas to Bangladesh.
