After failing to work out a consensus among the parties, the two major parties- the Nepali Congress and the UML with a few fringe parties, elected the veteran Nepali Congress Parliamentary leader Sushil Koirala as the 37th Prime Minister with 405 votes for and 148 members against in the election conducted on the 10th of February.

Despite a successful election with an  overwhelming and peaceful participation of the people, the political parties have gone back to their old ways and no effort is being made to quickly convene the parliament and go ahead with the constitution making process.  In one sense, nothing has changed and this is sad.

The Election Commission formally announced the results of the elections to the second Constituent Assembly on 3rd December. 

Quite unexpectedly, the UCPN (M) of Dahal, TMDP, the Sadhbavana splinter groups, MJF (Republican) and other fringe parties boycotted the press meet on the grounds that the voting was rigged- a typical stand of the "losers"

Despite the threats of using violent means to disrupt the elections by the CPN(Maoist- Baidya Group), the people of Nepal ignored the threats and voted in large numbers for the second Constituent Assembly Polls.

With the elections coming within the next four months, doubts are being raised even now whether it could be held on the 19th November as decided by the government and the Election Commission.
